The 2013 Pacific Rim Tournament was recently held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Hosted by Broomball Victoria a member of Broomball Australia, they were tasked with the hosting and running of the tournament. The event took place close to the CBD at the Medibank Icehouse making for an easy tournament to play broomball as well as see some of the sights that Melbourne has to offer. Teams and players came from across the world and across Australia for this event with the girls from North West Territories (The Rebels) having to travel the furthest. Others came from Ottawa, Canada as well as a number from Japan.
The host city for the next IFBA World Championship of Tomakomai was well represented and many had plenty of questions relating to the event being held at the end of next year. The event also had two representatives from the IFBA present, both who took to the ice as players as well as officials at various times during the week. The tournament commenced on the Tuesday night with three exhibition games where players were allocated to teams outside of their normal teams for the night Promoted as an exhibition of the game it did not take long to see that the skills and standard on show was equal to that seen at the bi-annual IFBA Worlds events. Games proper commenced early Wednesday morning and continued through to the finals on Saturday.
Mixed in were several ‘Masters” games that also featured a very high standard of play. At tournaments end the presentation dinner highlighted and rewarded those that shone throughout the week.
