One of the major projects that was discussed during the Governors meeting during the 2012 IFBA World Broomball Championships in Ottawa was the complete upgrade of the IFBA Broomball Rule Book. Further the Governors requested that the rules be made available on the IFBA web site.Immediately after that event the IFBA Executive immediately set up a small number of the team who were engaged to oversee the project. Since the turn of the year many communications and suggestions traveled across the globe all with the focus to see a better and easier to follow set of rules through an improved layout that include those changes from Ottawa as well as addressing any errors, omissions or grammar that simply needed updating.
With a rough draft ready by the Pacific Rim tournament and the fact that Melbourne, Australia would see three IFBA internationally qualified officials all in the same apartment for the tournament along with other highly qualified officials also present. The draft was used as a test to see how it met the expectations we had set.
Minor issues were found that have been addressed and further drafts produced that again required a very close inspection. The rule book is now in it’s last phase where proof reading is being completed word for word and once complete will be presented to the IFBA Executive to action the approval date. The Rules will then be posted up on the IFBA Web site. There will also be the opportunity to purchase a hard copy via the web site.
Initially the Rules as with all other documentation the IFBA place on the site will be published in English. Translated copies will need to be performed at a local level although the IFBA are continuing to investigate methods to translate for our membership.
